Compress ID Photo Online

Employers, universities, banks and government portals often ask for an ID-style photo with a limit around 100 KB. A close-up face on a plain background compresses very well, so 100 KB can look sharp. This page is set to JPG at 100 KB with a 1,000 pixel cap.

Settings this page uses

  • Output: JPG.
  • Target size: 100 KB, adjustable.
  • Max size: 1,000 pixels.
  • Transparent areas become white.

You can change any setting above the results.

Checklist before you upload

  • Use even light and a plain background. Shadows and patterns add bytes and look worse after compression.
  • Fill the frame with the face. Crop before compressing.
  • For a scan of an ID card, compress at a higher target so that small print stays readable.
  • Do not post an ID scan to untrusted sites. This tool keeps it on your device.

If something goes wrong

A scan of the front of an ID with small print needs more bytes than a face photo. If the print is unclear, raise the target to 300 KB or more.

Frequently asked questions

What size should an ID photo be?

The form decides. 100 KB is a common limit for online uploads.

Is it safe to compress an ID scan here?

Yes. Compression runs in your browser and the image is not sent to a server.

Can I keep the background transparent?

JPG has no transparency, so it becomes white. Use PNG or WebP if you need transparency.
