Image Resizer

Resize photos and graphics to exact pixels, a percentage, a print size or a file size. Keep the aspect ratio, crop to fit, or pad the edges. Your images never leave your browser.

Drop images here, click to choose, or paste
JPG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, HEIC, GIF, BMP. Up to 100 files. Stays in your browser.

Everything runs in your browser. Your images are not sent to our server. Sizes are shown with 1 KB = 1,000 bytes.

What this image resizer does

The tool changes the pixel size of a picture: its width and height. It takes JPG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, HEIC, GIF and BMP files, up to 100 at a time, resizes them in your browser and gives you the results one by one or as a ZIP. Nothing is uploaded, stored or logged.

How to resize an image

  1. Drop your images on the box, click it to choose files, or paste from the clipboard.
  2. Choose Resize by: Pixels for exact dimensions, Percentage for a simple scale, or File size to shrink the picture until it fits a limit in KB or MB.
  3. Enter the width, the height or both. With one value, the other is worked out so that the picture keeps its shape.
  4. Check the result in the list, open the thumbnail to look at it, and download.

Three ways to resize

Resize byUse it whenExample

PercentageYou only want it smaller or larger, and the exact size does not matter50% of the original
File sizeAn upload has a limit, and you want to keep high quality and lose pixels insteadUnder 200 KB

What happens when both width and height are given

If the new shape is different from the old one, something has to give. The Aspect ratio setting decides what:

  • Fit inside: the picture is scaled until it fits inside the box. Nothing is cut and nothing is stretched, but the result can be smaller than the box in one direction.
  • Fill and crop: the picture fills the whole box, and the parts that do not fit are cut off equally on both sides. Good for exact sizes such as profile photos.
  • Fit with padding: the picture fits inside the box and the rest is filled with a background color. The output has exactly the size you asked for and nothing is cut.
  • Stretch: the picture is forced to the exact size. It can look distorted, so use it only when the shapes are almost equal.

Print sizes: cm, mm and inches

Choose a unit other than pixels, and the tool converts using the DPI (dots per inch) you enter, or 300 if you leave it empty. For example, 35 by 45 mm at 300 DPI is 413 by 531 pixels. In JPG and PNG results the DPI is also written into the file, which some print shops and forms read. Screens and most web forms care only about pixels.

Other options

  • Output format: keep the original, or convert to JPG, PNG or WebP.
  • Quality: for JPG and WebP. 85 to 92 keeps a resized photo clean.
  • Allow enlarging: turn it off to make sure small pictures are never scaled up.
  • Background: used for JPG, which has no transparency, and for padding.

Resize by target

Common starting points: Percentage, Keep aspect ratio. By file size: 100 KB, 200 KB, 500 KB. By format: JPG, PNG, WebP, HEIC. For a purpose: Passport photo, Visa photo, Instagram, YouTube thumbnail, WhatsApp, Ecommerce.

Resize or compress?

Resizing changes the number of pixels. Compressing keeps the pixels and lowers the quality. To reach a small file, do both: resize to the size you really need, then compress. Read the guide to resizing images for the full picture.

Limits

  • Re-encoding removes EXIF data such as camera model and GPS position. The orientation is applied first, so photos stay upright.
  • Animated GIFs become one still image.
  • Enlarging cannot add detail. A picture made twice as wide looks softer.
  • Browsers cannot make canvases larger than about 16,000 pixels on a side.

Frequently asked questions

How do I resize an image without losing quality?

Make it smaller, not larger, and save with a quality of 85 to 92. Shrinking keeps a picture sharp. Enlarging cannot add detail.

Is my image uploaded to a server?

No. Resizing runs on your device. Only HEIC files in browsers without HEIC support make the page download a small decoder, and the photo itself stays on your device.

How do I keep the aspect ratio?

Enter only a width or only a height and the other is worked out. With both, choose Fit inside, Fill and crop or Fit with padding.

Can I resize many images at once?

Yes, up to 100 files. Each gets the same settings. Download them one by one or as a ZIP.

What is the difference between resizing and compressing?

Resizing changes the pixel size. Compressing lowers the quality to save bytes. Use both when a file must be small.
