Resize and convert to WebP together

WebP is a web image format that is commonly 25 to 35% smaller than JPG at a similar look and that also supports transparency. All current browsers display it. This page saves the result as WebP at quality 85, whatever the input is, so you can resize a JPG or PNG and convert it in one go.

Settings that work

  • Photos on a website: 1,920 pixels wide, quality 80 to 85.
  • Thumbnails: 600 pixels wide, quality 75.
  • Graphics with transparency: quality 90, or accept a little more size for clean edges.

Where WebP does not work

Some upload forms, print services and older programs still accept only JPG or PNG. If a form rejects the file, resize with the JPG resizer instead, or convert with the WebP to JPG converter. An exception is WhatsApp stickers, which must be WebP: see resize for WhatsApp.

Resize and compress

After resizing, you can lower the size further with the WebP compressor. For a longer comparison with JPG read the JPG vs WebP guide.

Other formats: JPG, PNG, HEIC.

Frequently asked questions

Can I resize a JPG and save it as WebP?

Yes. This page outputs WebP, so any supported image you add is resized and converted.

Does WebP support transparency?

Yes, in lossy and lossless mode.

What quality should I use for WebP?

80 to 85 for photos. WebP at 80 looks about like JPG at 85.

Do all browsers show WebP?

All current browsers do. Some older programs and upload forms do not.
