Resize your image to exact sizes
- Choose a square image of at least 512 pixels. A larger image gives sharper small icons.
- Tick the sizes you need, or pick a preset: the standard set, or the sizes Google Search likes.
- Adjust shape, padding and background, then download each PNG or all of them in a ZIP.
- To bundle sizes into one favicon.ico, use Download favicon.ico. Sizes up to 256 pixels go inside the ICO file.
Check an existing favicon
Drop a favicon.ico, PNG or SVG in the checker. An ICO file can hold several images, and the checker lists every one with its size. It then tells you whether the icon is square, whether it has a size that is a multiple of 48 for Google Search, and whether it has a 16 or 32 pixel image for browser tabs.
Common size mistakes
- A favicon that is not square. Browsers squash it, and Google Search ignores it.
- Only one 16 pixel image. On sharp screens it looks blurry, so add 32 and 48 pixels.
- No 48 pixel image, which is the base size Google uses for search results.
- A transparent Apple touch icon. iOS fills transparent areas with black.
- A huge file. A favicon should be a few kilobytes, not a full size logo.
