Two kinds of mirror image
- A mirror copy of the whole picture. The picture is flipped left to right, as you would see it in a mirror. This is the default.
- A symmetry effect. One half of the picture is copied onto the other half as a mirror image, so the result is perfectly symmetrical. Faces, buildings and landscapes with a reflection can look striking this way.
How to make a symmetry effect
- Open a picture.
- Switch off the mirror copy with Flip horizontal if you want to keep the original side.
- In Symmetry effect, choose which half to keep and where to copy it.
- Download the result.
Symmetry options
| Option | Result |
|---|---|
| Left half mirrored onto right | The left side is kept and copied to the right as a mirror image |
| Right half mirrored onto left | The right side is kept and copied to the left |
| Top half mirrored onto bottom | The top is kept and copied downwards, like a reflection |
| Bottom half mirrored onto top | The bottom is kept and copied upwards |
Tips for good symmetry
Choose a picture where the middle falls in a good place, such as a face, a door or the horizon. If the centre is off, use the image cropper first, so that the line down the middle sits where you want it. Faces are never perfectly symmetrical, so a symmetrical face can look unusual.
