How to convert JPG to PNG
- Drop your JPG files on the box, choose them with Choose images, or paste an image with Ctrl+V.
- Each image is converted as soon as it is added. The list shows the size before and after.
- Click Download next to a file, or Download all as ZIP.
What changes when you convert JPG to PNG
- Quality stays the same. PNG is lossless, so nothing more is lost in the conversion. It also cannot bring back detail that the JPG compression already removed.
- The file gets bigger. A photo saved as PNG is often 2 to 5 times the size of the JPG, because PNG stores every pixel exactly. Screenshots and graphics grow much less.
- The background is not made transparent. A JPG has no transparency, so the PNG has the same solid background. To remove it, use JPG to transparent PNG.
- Rotation is fixed. Phone photos store their rotation in EXIF data. The converter applies it, so the PNG shows the right way up in every program.
- Metadata is removed. Camera details and GPS location in the EXIF data are not copied to the PNG.
When PNG is the better choice
- You will edit the image several times. Each JPG save loses a little quality, a PNG does not.
- The image has text, lines, a logo or a screenshot, where JPG leaves blurry edges.
- A website, app or print shop asks for PNG.
- You plan to add a transparent background.
For photos on a website, PNG is usually too heavy. WebP or a compressed JPG loads faster. The JPG vs PNG guide explains the differences in detail.
Privacy
The images are converted in your browser. They are never uploaded, so the converter also works offline once the page has loaded.
