How the bill is shared
- Each person enters the total of what they ordered.
- Shared items, such as appetisers or a bottle for the table, are added once and divided equally.
- Tax is added in proportion to each person's subtotal, as it is on the real bill.
- The tip is a percentage of each person's subtotal, or of the subtotal with tax, as you choose.
Example
Three people ordered 25.00, 18.50 and 32.00, and shared an item of 12.00. Each person's share of the shared item is 4.00, so the subtotals are 29.00, 22.50 and 36.00, which makes 87.50. With 5% tax and an 18% tip on the amount before tax, the first person pays 29.00 + 1.45 + 5.22 = 35.67.
Why not split evenly
An even split is quick, but it is not fair when one person had a small salad and another had steak and wine. Splitting by order means everyone pays for what they had, and tax and tip follow the same share.
Round up each total
Tick Round each total up to a whole amount to make each payment easy. The table shows the total that is collected, so you can see how much extra goes to the tip.
Adding and removing people
Use Add person and Remove last for a bigger or smaller group. You can type a name for each person, and the names stay in your browser only.
