LinkedIn Profile Picture Size

LinkedIn recommends a 400 × 400 pixel profile picture and shows it as a circle. Drop a photo, drag and zoom it inside the circle, check the previews and download a square picture that is ready to upload.

How to make a LinkedIn profile picture

  1. Drop a photo on the box or choose one. You can also paste an image.
  2. Drag the picture so your face sits in the middle of the circle, with your eyes a little above the center.
  3. Use the zoom slider or your mouse wheel to make your face fill most of the circle.
  4. Check the two previews: the profile size and a tiny one like a comment picture. If you cannot recognize yourself in the small one, zoom in.
  5. Choose 400 × 400, pick JPG, and click Download.

Square upload, round display

Upload a square picture and LinkedIn applies the circle itself. The corners of your square are cut away, so keep everything important inside the circle. The editor shows the circle and darkens the corners, so what you see is what stays.

Tips for a good LinkedIn photo

  • Use a recent, clear photo of you alone, with your face filling about half to two thirds of the frame.
  • Choose a plain, uncluttered background that contrasts with your clothes.
  • Look at the camera, with good, even light. Daylight near a window works well.
  • Do not use a logo, a group photo or a heavy filter on a personal profile.
  • Use the same photo across your networks so people recognize you.
  • Pick JPG for photos. It gives a small file with no visible loss at quality 90.

Company logo option

A company logo is square and LinkedIn does not turn it into a circle. Choose Square (company logo) in the shape list, and the guide shows a square instead of a circle. Leave a margin around the logo, because fine edges are hard to read at small sizes. Use 300 × 300 for a company page.

Round PNG option

Tick Round PNG if you need a circular picture with transparent corners for another place, such as an email signature or a website. For LinkedIn itself, upload the normal square.

How to change your picture on LinkedIn

Open your profile, click your photo and choose Edit or Add photo. The menu names can change, so look for the photo option on your profile if you do not see them.
