How to convert a transparent PNG to JPG
- Choose the background color first. The thumbnails in the list show the PNG on that color.
- Add the PNG files.
- If the result is not right, change the color and click Convert again.
- Download the JPG, or all of them as a ZIP.
Why a transparent PNG turns black
A PNG stores a transparency value for every pixel. A JPG does not, so a converter has to decide what to put in those pixels. Many tools simply drop the transparency value, and the hidden color underneath, often black, shows up. This converter fills the transparent areas with a color of your choice before it saves the JPG, so you control the result.
Which background color to choose
| Use | Background |
|---|---|
| Print, documents, forms | White |
| Light logos or white text | Black or a dark color |
| Placing the JPG on a colored page | The exact color of that page, use the color picker |
| Product on a neutral backdrop | Light gray |
Soft edges and halos
The edges of a cut-out shape are partly transparent. When they are filled with a color, they blend into it. If the PNG was made for a dark background and you fill it with white, you may see a thin dark outline. Choose the color the image was designed for, or the color of the page where you will use it.
Do you really need a JPG?
If the image goes on a web page or in a design, keep the transparent PNG, or use WebP, which is also transparent and smaller. JPG is the right target when a service only accepts JPG, when you need the smallest file, or when the image goes on a fixed white or colored background, such as a document or a print sheet.
