Compare Two JSON Files

Choose or drop two JSON files and see what was added, removed or changed. The files are read in your browser and never uploaded.

Compare JSON files from your computer

Choose the original file in the left box and the new file in the right box, or drag each file onto its box. The contents appear in the text areas, where you can still edit them, and the comparison starts at once. Files with the extensions .json, .jsonc, .txt and similar text files all work.

Why files stay private

The files are read by your browser with the File API and are compared on your own computer. Nothing is sent over the network, so it is safe to compare configuration files, exports and API responses that contain private data.

What you get

  • A list of every difference with its path, the old value and the new value.
  • A side by side view and a unified view with line numbers.
  • A copy of the report as JSON, and a download of the report as a file.

Typical uses

  • Comparing a config file before and after a release.
  • Checking an API response against a saved one after a change.
  • Finding what changed between two exports of the same data.
  • Reviewing a package.json, tsconfig or composer.json change.

Large files

Files of a few megabytes work well. Very large files take longer, and the side by side view limits how many lines are drawn so that the page stays quick. The list of changes is always complete.

The options for ignoring keys, array order and letter case are available here too, and are explained on the JSON compare page. For pasted text, use JSON diff.
